Yet another new study finds that cannabis legalization did NOT increase traffic fatalities in the years 2016 through 2019 compared to states that did not. Previous studies have generally agreed with their conclusion, though the evidence has been mixed overall. And now we have the final nail in the coffin against one of the prohibitionists' most salient bits of fearmongering, which as we see, is not robust.
When including the, ahem, outlier years of 2020 and 2021, it appeared at first glance that the legalization states did worse than the control states, but removing those two pandemic years yielded the opposition conclusion. This shows that outlier data can easily yield misleading and often spurious inferences.
This dovetails nicely with another recent study that found no evidence of a link between cannabis legalization and traffic fatalities in the USA or Canada.
2024 UPDATE: Yet another study dovetails with these findings, again.
This is an informative blog. There is something that I want to point out, however. The Bible says that God considers those who are 20 years or older to be adults. Since God is in control and he should be in control, then maybe we should yield to God. Like I said, one of the reasons why Cannabis has not been legalized is because God doesn't want Cannabis to be legalized at the federal level. Maybe one of the reasons why the minimum age for drinking has not been changed is because God intends to be so.
ReplyDeleteThis is an informative blog but I think that God should be taken into account as to why many of the ideas on this blog have not been implemented. I'm not saying anything against you, you're a good person but I think that God should be taken into account and respected. God should be respected by me and you.
I still think that it's a good idea to have opinions, however. God is good and since he is in control, his will should be first.
DeleteWhere exactly in the Bible does it say that? And where does it imply that it extends to the drinking age as well? And why does God seem to be fine with nearly every other country in the world have a drinking age lower than ours?
DeleteIt is true that in Old Testament times, the Bar Mitzvah was traditionally held at age 20, and only for males. But over the centuries the age was eventually lowered to 13, where it remains today, and later further expanded to include the Bat Mitzvah for girls as well. It's almost like adulthood has always been a moving target.
DeleteOh and by the way: look up the meaning of "kaneh bosm" as well.
